The 5-day Salkantay Trek tour to the Historical Sanctuary of Machu Picchu is a world famous hike which goes through the Salkantay Valley. It is a 73 km trek that is a popular alternative to the Inca Trail as it does not require booking months in advance and offers breathtaking vistas as you traverse diverse landscapes and climates.
Listed by National Geographic as one of the top treks in the world, our tour allows travelers to enjoy stunning views of the snowy Salkantay, visit turquoise lagoons including Humantay Lake, reach the highest point of the trek at 4,600 m, pass through various plantations, forests and jungles, and finish at the lost city of the Incas, with sunrise views and a guided tour of Machu Picchu.
It is recommended to take some time to acclimatize before starting the tour, as the trek is demanding.

Briefing (Informative Meeting)
Join us for a 30-45 minute briefing the evening before your tour at our Cusco office or your hotel. If you can’t make it, please coordinate a different time via email, phone, or in person.
Can I store my luggage with you?
Yes, you can store your main luggage at our offices or your hotel free of charge. For items you won’t need on the trek, check with your hotel—they usually offer storage. Keep valuables in the hotel safe and get a receipt for insurance purposes. For extra security, put valuables in a sealed, signed envelope.
How long should I acclimatize in Cusco before the Trek?
To avoid altitude sickness, we suggest arriving in Cusco 2-3 days before your trek. Even if you’ve been at high altitude elsewhere in Peru, it’s best to spend a full day in Cusco to rest and explore before your trek.

I did the 4 day Inca Jungle tour in Peru with Alex, it was such a fun and memorable experience! Biking, rafting and zipline... He always made sure we have a good time, and took a lot of amazing pictures and videos of the trip, which made a great souvenir for all the group!

The 5-day trek to Salkantay was truly an unforgettable experience with DroPro Travel. Each day brought new challenges and incredible views, making the journey as rewarding as the destination. Our guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and supportive, always making sure we felt safe and motivated. The food provided at the camp was surprisingly delicious for a mountain trek—freshly prepared, hearty meals that gave us the energy we needed to keep going. Caampsites were well-organized and comfortable, especially considering the remote locations. One of the highlights was reaching the Salkantay Pass. Standing at over 4,600 meters with panoramic views of the Andes was both humbling and awe-inspiring. By the time we arrived at Machu Picchu on the final day, we felt a true sense of accomplishment. If you’re looking for adventure, natural beauty, and a bit of a personal challenge, the Salkantay trek is an amazing choice. Highly recommended if you do it through DroPro Travel!
